Cabinet Refinishing – What You Need to Know

Kitchen cabinet refacing is one of the best ways to give your kitchen a fresh new look without having to pay thousands of dollars for kitchen cabinet refacing. You can perform all the kitchen cabinet refacing work yourself. This is because cabinet refacing is not that complicated. You can even do it on a weekend when you have some free time. The first step in refinishing cabinets is to remove the doors and drawer fronts. Then, you will need to prepare the wood by sanding it, removing all the loose debris, and cleaning it thoroughly.

Once the wood has been sanded, it can be ready for the stain. There are different stain types available for kitchen cabinet refinishing. Make sure that the color is specifically designed for refacing cabinets. If you choose the wrong stain, your project will be useless. This is especially important if you have already had an existing cabinetry finish applied to the doors.

After applying the correct stain, you will have to allow it to dry. This is where your project will be slow, as allowing the stain to dry too soon can cause the stain to crack or chip. As with other types of refinishing, you should apply the stain to all the visible parts of the cabinets and then leave it to dry. After it has dried thoroughly, you can apply the new doors and drawer fronts.

This step is almost identical to the first one, but instead of painting the doors and drawer fronts, you will be using the color you have chosen for the new cabinetry. Painting a solid color will make your job much easier than using a shade. For instance, if you have selected a deep shade for your kitchen, you will have a bit more work to do when refinishing your cabinets. However, if you select a light or neutral shade, you will be less difficult to refinish your kitchen.

The last step in cabinet refinishing is to sand them down. This is actually the most time consuming step in the process, but it can also be the most beneficial. If you use the same stain and color for your cabinet refinishing as you used for the initial wood treatment, this will make the sanding process go by much faster. There are two methods that you can use to sand your cabinets down. You can either buy a machine or you can hire a professional to do it for you.

The first thing that you should know about cabinet refacing is that there is a difference between refinishing and resurfacing. Refacing refers to repainting an entire surface or case of a cabinet. On the other hand, resurfacing refers to removing just the top layer of a painted cabinet and replacing it with a different surface. In order for cabinet resurfacing to be done properly, the surface must be made smooth and flat. You can use a machine or a manual sander in order to remove the old surface and then replace it with a new one.

Before you even begin to paint your cabinets, you will want to prepare the surfaces that you will be painting with primer. This will help protect the finish that you choose to use. If you are going to do a lot of refinishing over just a few years, then it would be best to use a low shine primer so that you can maintain the clean lines that you have worked so hard to achieve. Even though a high gloss finish will make your job go faster, you will pay more money to have the refinishing done.

The next step is sanding. Most people think that this step is simply putting fine sandpaper to the surface. It is very important not to just use any fine sandpaper to do this. This will make the wood become uneven and even cause the wood to flake. It is best to use a drum sander for this step in order to create a very even and smooth finish. When you sand your cabinet areas, you will want to try to go from one side of the piece to the other in order to create a smooth finish on the entire surface of the cabinetry.
