Project Description

This kitchen, eat-in area, and family room were in serious need of an update. The space was dark and closed off by a half wall between the eat-in area and the den. The fireplace and mantle did not provide enough display space for the client’s vast collection of Christmas items that she dreamed of showing off to her grandkids during the holidays. The old, tattered carpet and dated brick patterned linoleum floors needed to be replaced. The dark paneling and wallpaper only added to the room’s gloom.

The first step in this extensive remodel was to remove all of the cabinets and appliances. Next we removed the carpet, linoleum floors, paneling, wallpaper and fluorescent light fixture. While ripping out the walls for the pantry we encountered a huge problem, there was a large plumbing pipe coming from the second floor. Luckily we were able to relocate it and slip it behind the wall of our new pantry cabinet.

The next problem we came across was major water damage in the walls around the fireplace after we opened them up to install two transom windows. We were able to repair the water damage and make the area structurally sound with our new transom windows flanking each side of the fireplace for added natural light. A custom mantle was installed that spanned the entire width of the fireplace wall for plenty of display space.

In the kitchen we installed custom Alder cabinets with white quartz countertops, stainless appliances and a tile backsplash with an accent over the range. New bamboo floors were installed in the kitchen, eat-in area and family room to tie it all together. New lighting included LED recessed lights, LED under-cabinet lights, (2) pendants over the peninsula and a matching chandelier over the table. The final touch was a clean coat of paint on the walls, trim and ceiling for a fresh updated look that the clients and their family could all enjoy.
